Instructor coaching advanced technique on a trail at Ylläs Bike Park

Mountain Biking Technique Course

Expert coaching for riders who already have experience on the trails. Sharpen your technique, improve your control, and start riding faster.

The Mountain Biking Technique Course is for riders with at least several dozen hours of trail riding experience.

The course helps develop riding technique and make the sport more controlled, safer and optionally faster. It works as a first course for adults and juniors on full-size bikes. We recommend Pyörä-Werneri kids' courses for smaller riders.

Participants should already use gears, brakes and other controls. No other prerequisites – the course suits both trail and bike park riders. At the end there's a chance to try the chairlift with guidance, but all course exercises are on the training area in a safe environment. We can add challenge to exercises so more experienced riders get something new. You'll practice the cornerstones of good technique and bike control in different situations. Trail etiquette, key gear and different mountain bike features are also covered.

Ylläs Bike Park is open daily 11am–6pm during the summer season. The season starts on 13 June and runs through 27 September 2026. Follow our website and social channels for updates on exceptions and current information.

For brand-new riders we recommend starting with the trails from the Vekkuli carpet lift. When your bike feels familiar and you feel confident, you can move on to trails reached by the chairlift, such as Ylläs Flow. Flow is wide and beginner-friendly. Riding at an easy pace, you can manage with everyday cycling skills and a bit of an adventurous spirit.

The most common reasons for closing the Gondola are strong wind, storms, or thunderstorms. The Gondola is never closed for cost-saving reasons. The crew operating the Gondola are on duty all day, even if the lift does not run for a single minute.

Courses last two to three hours depending on the course. For example, the Get to know the bike park course lasts two hours, and the Ylläs Pro X course three hours.
