First-timer learning mountain biking on the magic carpet at Ylläs Bike Park

Get to Know the Bike Park

The easiest way into lift-assisted mountain biking. No prior experience needed – from magic carpet to flow trail in a single session.

We start with the easy-to-use magic carpet lift to get familiar with the bike and very easy trails. Once you've mastered the basics of bike control, we'll introduce you to the chairlift and experience Ylläs' famous flow trail. The goal is to give you the skills for independent lift-assisted biking on Ylläs' easy flow trails safely.

Beginner mountain biker on the Starter Course flow trail at Ylläs Bike Park

Mountain Biking Starter Course

Master the fundamentals of riding technique in one focused session. The right start for anyone who wants to ride safer and more in control.

You'll learn the cornerstones of good riding technique and practice bike control safely on the training area. Trail etiquette and choosing bikes and gear for the terrain also become familiar. The course suits all riders whether you ride trails or the park. The goal is to make trail riding more controlled and safer for beginners.

The course works as a first course. Exercises are aimed at adults and those riding full-size mountain bikes. We recommend Pyörä-Werneri courses for children. For those with 50+ hours who have progressed, we recommend the technique course. You need a correctly sized mountain bike with hand-operated brakes on both wheels. Helmet and riding gloves are required. Hill Ski Rent can help with gear if needed.

Ylläs Bike Park is open daily 11am–6pm during the summer season. The season starts on 13 June and runs through 27 September 2026. Follow our website and social channels for updates on exceptions and current information.

For brand-new riders we recommend starting with the trails from the Vekkuli carpet lift. When your bike feels familiar and you feel confident, you can move on to trails reached by the chairlift, such as Ylläs Flow. Flow is wide and beginner-friendly. Riding at an easy pace, you can manage with everyday cycling skills and a bit of an adventurous spirit.

The most common reasons for closing the Gondola are strong wind, storms, or thunderstorms. The Gondola is never closed for cost-saving reasons. The crew operating the Gondola are on duty all day, even if the lift does not run for a single minute.

Courses last two to three hours depending on the course. For example, the Get to know the bike park course lasts two hours, and the Ylläs Pro X course three hours.
